INFORMATION NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS (FOR PARTICIPANTS ONLY)
General
The Beijing High-level Conference on Climate Change: Technology Development and Technology Transfer is scheduled to be held on 7 – 8 November 2008.
The Conference will be inaugurated at the Great Hall of the People at 9:00 hours on Friday, 7 November 2008. The thematic roundtable sessions will be held at the Beijing International Hotel on 7 November 2008 (afternoon) and 8 November 2008.
Visas
Visas are issued by the Chinese Embassy, Consulate or other consular authority in the country of residence. All participants are requested to obtain their entry visa to China, as well as any transit visa, prior to their departure.
All foreigners entering China must have a valid passport. Detailed information on visa application procedures and related application forms can be obtained from the Chinese Embassy, Consulate or other consular authority in the country of residence.
To facilitate the issuance of a visa, a copy of the invitation of the co-organizers and/or a copy of the nomination acceptance letter should be attached to the visa request. All participants are requested to initiate their visa application at their earliest convenience to allow sufficient time for the processing of visa requests.

Please find below a list of hotels recommended by the Chinese co-organizers. Please note that only a limited number of rooms are available (on a first come - first served basis).

All participants will be responsible to pay their own hotel bills.
Arrival at the airport
On November 6th, airport shuttle bus service will be provided for the guests from the third terminal building "T3" (the airport terminal for international arrival) to Beijing International Hotel on hourly basis from 9:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m.
At any other time, participants should make their own transportation arrangements from Beijing Capital International Airport to their respective hotels. Participants are advised that the taxi fare between the airport and the recommended hotels is about RMB Yuan 80 -100 (US$12-15) depending on traffic conditions (plus toll fees).
Special Diet Needs
Please inform the Chinese Conference Secretariat in advance of any eventual special diet needs. Participants are requested to mark the relevant sections on the Delegate Registration Form.
On-line Registration
Please go to “Registration” column on our website for a on-line registration. The deadline for online registration is 30 October, 2008. Please send the ID photo (2-inch) in electronic format to the Conference Secretariat by email.
On-Site Registration
Upon their arrival in Beijing, all conference participants are requested to register and obtain their conference badges at the Conference Registration Room located in the Sunshine Hall of the Beijing International Hotel. The registration room will be open from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm on Thursday, 6 November 2008.
Participants are advised that no on-site registration is taking place at the Great Hall of the People. Only conference participants holding valid conference badges will have access to the meeting room of the Great Hall of the People.

All participants are informed that the Conference will be conducted in English and Chinese. Simultaneous interpretation will be available.

A Conference Document is currently under preparation and will be published on the Conference website in due course.
Statements by Ministers in High-level Segment
Statements by Ministers invited to speak at the High-Level segment are requested not to exceed 5 minutes presentation time.
Format for other papers and presentations
The co-organizers have invited a limited number of technical papers and issued papers for presentation and discussion at the Conference. All invited presentations should be prepared in English or Chinese using MS Word / MS PowerPoint or compatible format.
All invited presentations should be submitted to the conference co-organizers at the latest by 25 October 2008. Advance copies should be sent to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (
llanto-barnett@un.org) and to the Department of Climate Change, National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China (
wangxi@ccchina.gov.cn ). Presenters should ensure that they bring their presentation to the Conference on suitable electronic media, i.e. CD, memory stick, etc.
All invited speakers are requested to rehearse their presentations not to exceed 10 minutes presentation time. Slide presentations should not exceed 12 slides.
Longer background information papers, study reports or presentations may be submitted and will be circulated by the conference co-organizers.
Panel discussions: The co-organizers are also inviting a number of participants as panelists in the discussions and Q&A sessions. Invited panelists are requested to prepare short oral statements not exceeding 5 minutes related to the topics of the session.
